Luxury Umbrella Quality Inspection: Klasyfikacja defektów & AQL Standards

This document outlines the acceptance criteria for luxury umbrella inspections based on the ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 standard (or equivalent). Defects are classified into three categories, each with its own Acceptable Quality Limit (AQL).

1. Critical Defects (AQL 0.0) – REJECT ALL

Defects that render the product unusable, non-functional, or pose a safety hazard to the user. The presence of any single Critical defect results in the immediate failure of the entire inspection lot.

  • Mechanism Failure: Umbrella does not open, close, or lock properly.

  • Safety Hazards: Presence of sharp edges, points, or exposed metal that could cause injury.

  • Structural Failure: Broken frame, rib, or runner that compromises integrity.

  • Non-Functional Lock: Locking mechanism fails to hold the canopy open securely.

2. Major Defects (AQL 1.0 – 1.5)

Defects that are readily noticeable to the customer and are likely to result in a product return or complaint. They adversely affect the product’s appearance, durability, or perceived quality.

  • Canopy Issues: Misaligned panels, significant color bleeding or variation, large wrinkles that won’t fall out.

  • Construction Flaws: Inconsistent, crooked, or missing stitching; loose seams.

  • Surface Damage: Visible scratches, dents, or chips on the handle, shaft, or tips.

  • Structural Issues: Crooked or bent ribs (even if functional), misaligned frame components.

  • Finishing Defects: Tarnished metal parts, uneven coating, sticky or malfunctioning automatic open/close button.

3. Minor Defects (AQL 2.0 – 2.5)

Minor imperfections that do not affect the product’s functionality or durability but may be noticed upon very close inspection upon the product’s perceived luxury upon close examination.

  • Threads: Small, loose threads (must be clipped, not pulled).

  • Cosmetic Issues: Very slight print misregistration or color shade variations between panels.

  • Minor Blemishes: Tiny scuffs or marks on handles or shafts that are not readily visible from a distance (~12 inches).

  • Packaging: Minor scuffing on packaging that does not affect its protective function.

Summary of AQL Application:

  • Krytyczny: 0.0 (Zero Tolerance)

  • Poważny: 1.0 for strict luxury standards, 1.5 for standard commercial goods.

  • Mniejszy: 2.0 for strict luxury standards, 2.5 for standard commercial goods.

Note: The specific AQL level chosen (e.g., 1.0 vs. 1.5 for Majors) depends on the product’s price point, brand positioning, and customer expectations.
