About Food Bag Inspection

What the difference is when you perform the of food bag inspection and of fashion bag inspection?

I recently received a comment for shipping sample when client performed the food bag inspection. They are as many as 8 points as below:

1. 4cm of foam missing on the top of the strap. Did you find this was the case during the inspection?
2. Bar tacks for the straps are very loose, this would not be acceptable.
3. Side panels are bigger than the zip, which is causing a lot of creasing and puckering on the panels.
4. Bar tacking for the chest strap is not dense enough and can easily be pull off and doesn’t look neat at all.
5. Pink thread color doesn’t match.
6. The zip on the top opening is very very tight and not easy to close – did you find this was the case during the inspection?
7. Stitch length on the top panel is too long and is varies between the rest of the stitching on the bag, some of the stitching is small and some is very big.

How to perform the food bag inspection?

And then I give the below explanations of how to perform the food bag inspection and client happily accepted my points:

I have gone through all points you mentioned again. And I went to inspect this bag with the same standard and strictness. I did n’t flag them up as you did. I think this discrepancy is caused by different perspective. If you check this bag with the perspective and standard as a fashion bag, I definitely agree with you. However it is a food bag, huge and thick. Sometimes we have to focus the strength and function of bag rather than cosmetic aspects. For example, the zipper is waterproof, and the fabric of zipper has to be coated. Then it is tight and hard to run than normal zippers.

The bar tacking on tarpaulin could not have too much stitches, otherwise the tarpaulain, which is actually not woven fabric, will be damaged by needle running. When the workers were sewing all panels together, they have to turn inside out and outside in, as thick foam in, there will be some panels larger than it is necessary. The factory usually puts these panels inside, but not all. For all these reasons, sometimes I need to discuss with the technician to solve one problem. But not cause another problem, or balance the strength, function, easy working and cosmetics.

I understand that clients’ standard is higher and higher. Therefore the factories need to improve the quality more and more. With the same factory, we can only push the improvement little by little, unless we change the factory and find a very high standard one. Otherwise the same factory will never finish a bag which meets that skipped high standard.
